Artstonia Village History

Deep in the woods lies the walls of the fabled village of Artstonia. People whisper the tales of dragons, wizards, waring tribes and its now peaceful existence. Legend has it that long ago there was a multitude of tribes who were trying to claim the land for themselves. Everyone wanted to hold the land that held the three magical wells. The wells were said to heal even the most mortal wounds and provide everlasting life. So for centuries the tribes would come and fight in hopes of having the wells to themselves. This fighting eventually captured the attention of the red dragon who resided in the mountains near by. The dragon wanting to add to its treasure decided that he should be in control of the wells and began to attack and devour the tribes.

As they whittled in numbers the tribes realized that it would be necessary to band together to defeat the foul beast. The battles raged for more then a decade but the tribes man could not damage the dragon. It appeared to heal as quickly as it was injured.

One day, a mage heard the tale of the dragon and decided to set out for the land of the three wells. Here he found the tribes men beaten and discouraged. He agrees to help the tribes men if they agreed to put an end to their fighting and let him live in peace in the mountains where the dragon called home if he could defeat the dragon. The tribes men eager to be rid of the beast agreed to let the land of the three wells be used by all people if he could defeat the evil red dragon.

The mage set out to confront the dragon. The dragon being boastful scoffed at the puny mage as he approached him with his deal. The mage would fight without magic if the dragon agreed not to use his fiery breath. Knowing that it was impossible to be beaten as long as he had the well the dragon agreed. For three days the battle ensued the results the same as the tribesman had described, the dragon was healing almost as fast as he was injured.

It was then that the mage noticed the dragons tail was dipped into the well water. He quickly devised a plan to lure the dragon away. Pretending to be defeated the mage dismounted his stead and and hung his head low as he began to walk away. Recognizing the defeat, the dragon charged forward to gobble the mage up. As he did the mage quickly turned mounted his stead and blocked his passage to the wells. Finally, the mage was able to injure the dragon, who due to blood loss finally died. His fall was heard through out the land and the tribes rejoiced.

Holding true on their promise they built the village of Artstonia and a retreat for the mage in the mountains. In the town, the elves, dwarfs, knights, trolls and shapeshifters dwelled. They welcome all who visit the land, but a ferociously protective of the wells they kept.

In peace they lived for more then 100 years, but wth the old mage's passing last year, there is now talk of trouble in Artstonia. In secret a group has been plotting to take control of the wells and there is word that a new dragon has been spotted in the forest outside of town. No one is safe and not everyone can be trusted to be who they claim to be. Be careful dear traveler as you enter this town. It is wise to keep your weapons nearby.
